Transforming Old Sails into Artwork.
I give old sails a new life by transforming them into artwork that celebrates their unique marks and imperfections from a life at sea.
Sails have such a rich history, each telling their own story with tears, stains and salty textures. I like to honour this character, often including elements such as reef lines and rows of stitching in the work. Each sail comes with its own set of challenges which influence the final artwork, making each piece impossible to replicate.
I can create statement pieces on entire sails for large spaces, brands and events as well as more subtle personal pieces for the home.
There are multiple options for commissioning a custom piece.
I can capture memories on one of your old sails or you can choose from one of the sails in my studio.
The sail can be stretched over bars like a normal canvas or the entire sail can be painted and hung as a large statement piece.
Together we can discuss the inclusion of particular features, collage elements, stitching etc, as well as colours and composition of the painting itself.
